AD Slams Ogunlewe over Comments on Tinubu
Lagos State chapter of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) has described the statement credited to Works Minister, Seye Ogunlewe, in which he said the administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has failed as " the rantings of a political ant".
In a statement signed by Toyin Caxton-Martins its Publicity Secretary, the party said " Ogunlewe is still licking the wounds of his disastrous defeat in the 2003 elections.
There is no doubt that the defeat has done incalculable damage to his bloated ego and has caused him serious psychological stress," the statement added.
The AD said it thought Ogunlewe's appointment as Works minister would have rehabilitated him psycholologically but all evidence available indicates that his electoral misfortunes in 2003 is still affecting him".
Citing instances of Ogunlewe's obsession with Tinubu's success the AD said Ogunlewe recently made similar rude statements while on inspection tour of the Ministry of Works overinflated contract jobs in Kaura- Namoda, Keffi, Orlu and lately, Abeokuta.
It wondered how a person of unstable mind, who is obsessed with the results of his political opponents can achieve success in a federal assignment that involves maintaining cordial relations with all component units of the federation.
"As Minister of Works, it is surprising that Ogunlewe displays abysmal ignorance of the nuances of federal-state relations in the context of the fiscal federalism put in place by the 1999 Constitution. Doesn't he know that as a minister, he is also responsible to Lagos State, one of the most important in the comity of states? Is he not aware that he is also a servant of all the states?" the AD added.
Accusing the Minister of engaging in attempts to sabotage the programmes of the AD-led Tinubu administration through anarchism and verbal diarrhea, the Lagos AD said it would no longer tolerate intemperate statement "by a man who lacks the intellectual resources and the popular support to lead the people of Ikorodu, not to talk of Lagos State."
