Pensioners Lament Five Months Unpaid Entitlements Delta From Jaiyeola Andrews in Asaba Delta State Pensioners on the pay-roll of Federal Goverment have cried out over their unpaid monthly pension from May till date. They equally called on President Olusegun Obasanjo and Finance Minister, Dr. (Mrs) Okonjo Iweala to Institute an Investigative Panel with a view to determing the cause of the delay in payment of their pension allowances. The state chairman who double as the deputy National President of Pensioners, Chief B. N. Anwasia told newsmen in Asaba that pensioners throughout the country are being owed outstanding arrears of six months on the 142 percent pension increase for the months of January to June 2002. "The plight of Delta State Pensioners under the federal pay-roll has become unbearable. Delta State Federal Pensioners have not been paid their monthly pension since the month of May 2004, while their counterparts in the Federal Capital territory Abuja and Lagos state have been paid up to the month of September, 2004" Anwasia said. He stressed that workers who retired since 1999 have been groaning and suffering, due to their unpaid benefits. "This is unbelievable and Inhuman in a land blessed by God with abundant financial resour-ces," he said. The senior citizens also quarried why these arrears are allowed to build up very continuously.
