5 Banks, Zinox Boost e-Learning at UNN

Nigeria's leading Banks and the biggest indigenous computer brand last weekend, provided the biggest financial support ever to e-learning in the country when they rallied round the University of Nigeria N500 million electronic learning project on a day Prof. Charles Soludo, the CBN Governor and his Deputy, Mr. Tunde Lemo, both first class gradutes of the university were honored.

Standard Trust Bank, ACB International Bank, , First Bank Guaranty Trust Bank, Oceanic Bank and Zinox Computers were all at Nsukka and threw their financial weight behind the project which will achieve the following among others: an on-line common room where registered students can log into and have access to a wide range of privileges,on-line application for prospective students and registration by currently enrolled students as well as on-line brochure ( containing webpages) that may need to broadcast what the institution intends to show on the worldwide web.

Professor Green Nwankwo, Chairman of ACB; and Mr. Tony Elumelu, Managing Director, Standard Trust Bank were the Chairman and Guest Speakers respectively at the ceremony. Other Special dignitaries were Mr. Leo Stan Ekeh, Chairman of Zinox Computers and Assurance Bank; Mr. John Udeka, Managing Director of ACB and a reprentative of First Bank, Mr.Jide Ogundele were among the special dignitaries that graced the occasion and donated generously.

Prof. Soludo and Lemo were among the 605 graduates who made first class right from the University since inception that were honoured by the School led by its Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chinedu Nebo.

Speaking at the occasion , the CBN Governor explained that e-learning is part of the global growth in the world economy.

"e-learning is at the heart of revamping of university education .E-learning is at the heart of the NEEDS project , without it we cannot create the new economy'' he said..
