Market Value Rises by 0.3%

The market capitalisation of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday rose by N5 billion or 0.3 per cent, an indication of increased price appreciation of traded equities.
The market capitalisation stood at N1.699 trillion compared to N1.694 trillion recorded the pervious day. The all-share index also increased to 22,907.70 from 22,829.85.
Similarly, the volume of traded shares rose by 5.2 million ordinary shares, representing 34.4 per cent. A turnover of 20.3 million ordinary share valued at N299.1 million was recorded yesterday in 1,701 deals, as against 15.1million ordinary shares worth N172.1 million exchanged in 1,01.3 deals, the pervious day.
The banking subsector recorded a totals of 14.5 million ordinary shares valued at N106.7 million exchanged in 3674 deals as it emerged the most active.
The price movement chart indicated that 26 stocks appreciated in price. African Petroleum Plc led on the price gainers' chart with a gain of N3.84 kobo to close at N80.77 kobo per share. It was followed by Union Bank Nigerian Plc which gained 100 kobo to close at N25 per share, while Unilever Nigeria Plc made a gain of 69 kobo to close at N14.50 kobo per share.
Other price gainers in the top ten chart included PZ Industries Plc (56 kobo), Presco Plc (55 kobo), United Bank for Africa Plc (40 kobo), First bank of Nigerian Plc (38 kobo), Intercontinental Bank Plc (32 kobo), Cement Company of Nigerian Plc (20 kobo) and Vitaform Nigerian Plc (16 kobo).
On the other hand, the prices of 15 stocks dwindled with Total Nigeria Plc topping the price losers' chart dropping by N5.90 kobo to close at N180.00 per share. Conoil Plc followed with a loss of N3.50 kobo to close at N127 per share while Texaco Nigerian Plc lost N2.39 kobo to close at N162 per share.
There were other price losers' in the top ten chart, Nigerian Bottling Company Plc (200 kobo), Guinness Nigerian Plc (145 kobo), 7UP Bottling Company Plc (38 kobo), Standard Trust Bank Plc (22 kobo), Ashaka Cement Plc (20 kobo), Wapic Insurance Plc (11 kobo) and Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals Plc (9 kobo)
