KANO state government has made all necessary
arrangements to commence the payment of salaries and pension allowances for
the month of October, 2004 tomorrow.

Abdullahi disclosed this in a special broadcast to the people of the state
preparatory to the Ramadan fasting in the state.
Engr. Abdullahi stated this at the Government
House yesterday, stating that government has also directed the payment of
November salaries and pension allowances before the end of the Ramadan
fasting period.
The acting governor explained that the gesture
is aimed at to assisting the teeming civil servants and pensioners in the
state to commence the fasting without hardship.
In addition, he said the state government would
continue to provide free Ramadan meals to the less privileged in the
society, adding that already the quality of this year�s meals has been
improved and feeding centers increased over last year�s.
Engr. Abdullahi then advised the beneficiaries
to organize themselves in an orderly manner and offer prayers for peace and
unity in the state and the country in general.
He reiterated government resolve toward
executing developmental projects that have direct bearing on the people of
the state.
Accordingly, the acting governor advised
wealthy people in the society to assist the less privileged especially
during the fasting period by bringing down the prices of their commodities.
The acting governor further said that the state
government has directed for the release of grains from government�s reserve
for sales at the subsidized rate of N1,800 per bag to help alleviate the
people�s suffering.
Engr. Abdullahi also said that the quality of
food being provided to boarding schools, hospitals and rehabilitation
centers would be improved in order to make the students, patients and
inmates more comfortable during the period.
He then reminded the Muslims Umma to emulate
the good teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), by dedicating themselves to
the service of Allah.
Over 50,000 people are expected to benefit from
the feeding arrangement estimated to cost N80 million.
In a related development, the state government
has approved the sum of N391 million be paid to workers as part of its
promise to refund them all monies deducted from their salaries under the
National Housing Fund (NHF).
It said the payment would also be tomorrow
October 15, 2004.
