KATSINA state government has purchased instructional
materials worth N200 million to be distributed to about 62 primary schools
across the state.
Similarly, the state government has also pledged to
release N500 million monthly to improve the primary school sector in the
state.
The state governor, Alhaji Umaru Musa 'Yar'adua made this
disclosure on the occasion of commissioning ceremony of Ahmadu Bello
Commassie Science Model Primary School in Katsina.
Governor `Yar'adua assured the minister of education,
Professor Fabian N.C. Obuj who was represented by UBE national coordinator,
Professor Gidado Tahir that his administration was fully committed to the
general development of education in the state.
Alhaji `Yar'adua, however appreciated the efforts of the
federal government for its laudable initiatives to launch the UBE World bank
state programmes in the state.
The state governor, also reminded the people of the state
that education is being considered top priority since his administration
assumed office in May 1999 and measures were formulated with a view to
reviving the standard of education in the state.
On his part, the minister of education represented by
Professor Gidado Tahir said the federal government has since taken measures
towards improving the standard of education nationwide.
He reminded Governor `Yar'adua of the federal
government's resolve to improve academic performance of primary schools
education across the country.
The Katsina state education commissioner, dr. Mustapha
Inuwa, who also spoke at the ceremony commended Governor `Yar'adua for
getting huge sum of money for the improvement of education sector in the
state.
In his vote of thanks, the chairman of the state primary education board,
Alhaji Inuwa Imam thanked Yar'adua for giving priority attention to the
education sector in the state.
