AD swears-in new executives on Monday

By Rafiu Ajakaye,

special correspondent, Lagos

The Alliance for Democracy (AD) will on Monday swear-in its newly elected national executives at the national secretariat in Abuja.

The party had at its last week’s national convention in Lagos elected former Osun State Governor, Chief Bisi Akande as the new national chairman of the party.

At the convention tagged the “Unity and Reconciliation convention”, Akande polled 3,010 votes to defeat Professor Sola Adeyeye who scored 400 votes while the third contestant; Lanre Idowu had no vote.

The convention also returned unopposed Alhaji Rafiu Ogunleye (Deputy Financial Secretary); Muftau Olatunji Hamzat (Vice National Chairman), Chief Caleb Akani (Assistant National Secretary, South/West); Mr. Jude Eke (National Treasurer); Mr. Donatus Obiyeneche (Deputy National Publicity Secretary) and Rev. Okechukwu Obioha as ( National Vice Chairman).

Also, Prince Ben Iki, Senator U.J Yohanna, Alhaji Ahmed Aseni, Comrade Farouk Umar and Yunana all emerged as the National vice Chairman (South-south), National Secretary, Deputy National Chairman, and National Publicity Secretary respectively.

A statement signed by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye urged all elected officials to be punctual at the inauguration ceremony.

Meanwhile, the factional leader of the party, Senator Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa still maintained that the Lagos and Abuja convention held in December 2003, which elected him as the chairman remains the authentic convention of the party.

The senator had gone to court seeking declarations that the September 29 Lagos convention that elected Akande was unconstitutional.
