Leaders
and stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta South
Senatorial District have at an interactive meeting at Oleh, headquarters of
Isoko South Local Government Area, called for unity among party members.
At
the meeting attended by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr.
Emmanuel Uduaghan; the State Chairman of PDP, Chief Pius Sinebe; the
Vice-Chairman, who also doubles as the senatorial district chairman, Dr.
Eniforo Mallam-Obi; commissioners from the senatorial districts, local
government chairmen and other stakeholders, Uduaghan told the party faithful
that except the people in the senatorial district developed the spirit of give
and take, peace and unity needed to develop the district would not be achieved.
He
pointed out that for peace to reign, all stakeholders must be involved in the
peace process.
He
stated that it was a challenge to the state chairman and his deputy, who are
from the senatorial district, to use their positions to settle the problems in
Delta South senatorial district, as most of the crises in the communities in
the zone had political undertone.
Uduaghan
would not share the view that Delta South is plagued by crisis, stating that no
other senatorial district in the state is more peaceful than the zone. He
noted, however, that misunderstanding could not be ruled out in the conduct of people’s
affairs, saying what was important was the ability to settle amicably.
Speaking
earlier, Mallam-Obi stated that the essence of the interactive meeting was to
fashion out ways of moving the senatorial district forward and ensure unity
among the Isoko, Ijaw and Itsekiri, who are the three ethnic groups in the
area.
He
criticised members for jettisoning the party after elections, thus leaving the
party dormant until another election is called. He added that this had largely
contributed to the disunity in the party as those elected on the platform of
the party do not attend party meetings.
Also
speaking, Sinebe advised members, who were not given appointments, to exercise
patience as the party would look into any anomaly in the appointment of party
members to various positions.
