We wont give up massob
TWENTY-FOUR
hours after the police attack on its leader, Movement for Actualisation of the
Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) yesterday said it was more than ever before
committed to the realisation of an independent Biafra republic.
MASSOB also alleged that the policemen who
invaded its leader, Chief Ralph Uwazuruikes country home in Okwe, Onuimo local
govenment area of Imo State, carted away, among other items, the sum of N1.3
million raised to solve the organisations logistics problem.
About 100 cops had raided Uwazuruikes
home apparently seeking Biafra items, such as flags, declared illegal by the
Federal Government.
The MASSOB leader escaped arrest but 11 of
his men were picked up.
Director of information of MASSOB Mr.
Uchenna Duru, told Daily Champion that attacks by security agencies would
not deter the organisation from pursuing the Biafra cause.
If nothing, he added, such onslaught had
further gingered the members to show "more than extra" determination and
commitment to the Biafra cause.
Condemning the attack, MASSOB described it
as primitive, observing that "there was no cause for it."
Duru reiterated that MASSOB is non-violent
and "no threat to the Federal Government of Nigeria."
Eleven MASSOB members arrested at Okwe, he
said, are being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID),
Owerri.
"Governments tactics cannot destroy
Biafra. God, history and humanity are on Biafras side," he stressed.
The MASSOB director called on Amnesty
International, the world community and lovers of peace to note the onslaughts
against the organisation and enjoined the United Nations (UN) to hurry up
deliberations on the Biafra matter.
Efforts to reach state police
commissioner, Hez Dimka and the commands spokesman repeatedly proved abortive
as they were not at the police headquarters and their cell phones reportedly
switched off.
