BAUCHI - THE Federal government has indicated determination to get to the root of the ethno religious and communal violence in Plateau, Niger Delta and other parts of the country with the view to finding a lasting solution to it.
President Olusegun Obasanjo who gave this indication when he paid a courtesy call on the Emir of Bauchi,Alhaji Suleiman Adamu said government would investigate immediate and remote causes of these disturbances.
He said when there was crisis in any part of the country, the entire would be in trouble, and hence the government would ensure that a lasting solution was found to end future occurrences.
Obasanjo who thanked the royal father and the people of Bauchi state for accommodating the displaced victims of the Plateau crises also called on them to allow the reign of peace in the state.
Speaking on the government’’s hydra-headed reforms that has left many in pains, the president said there was no going back because it was in the over all interest of Nigeria and Nigerians.
The president said reform was like a preparation of soup, the pot would be very hot including the food but when it cool, it would be delicious for consumption.
He said the end of the reform would bring happiness to all Nigerians, adding that the break through in the communication sector as exemplified in the availability of GSM services was a function of the reform.
Earlier, the Emir of Bauchi told the president to do something to end the violence in the Niger Delta, when the committee set up to that effect submits its report, to douse the tension in the area.
He commended the president for his maturity in the handling of labour matters, and called on him to study the report of the committee set up when submitted to alleviate the suffering of masses.
The Emir who thanked the president for making out time to be in Bauchi for the launching of the second National fadama development, urged the president to ensure that the project succeeded.
In another development, president Olusegun Obasanjo described the military as group of professionals that were not consumers, but insured profession that were ready to exhibit their talents for the development of the nation.
Speaking while commissioning a 40 unit of Houses built by the military authorities under the post service-housing scheme, he explained that the military has done the nation proud in all spheres of endeavours
He expressed satisfaction with the project, which was said to be completed in three months, but wondered that if such feat could be attained in three months how much more could be achieved in one year.
