Northern Govs in Secret Meeting With Masari From Ahamefula Ogbu in Abuja Six Northern Governors yesterday held a secret meeting with Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari. Efforts by newsmen to find out the outcome of the parley was however frustrated by the governors who kept mute over the meeting. Governors who attended the meeting included Mohammmed Makarfi of Kaduna State, Abdullahi Adamu of Nasarawa and Danjuma Goje of Gombe State. Also at the meeting were deputy governors of Benue, Kano and Kogi states, Ogiri Ajene, Magaji Abdullahi, and Mr. Phillip Salawu respectively. The governors arrived the National Assembly Complex for the meeting in the afternoon after the House had risen from its plenary session and headed straight to the Committee Room where they discussed for over an hour. Although the subject of the meeting was not made known, THISDAY learnt that the issue of fuel prices featured prominently in their discussion. Another source said the meeting was held to fine-tune the Arewa agenda towards agreeing on a common front for the 2007 elections. Also rumoured to have featured on their agenda was the resource control suit in which Northern governors are challenging the restoration of the onshore-offshore dichotomy in the calculationof derivation found for oil producing states. When the governors were about to board their vehicles, Masari joked with newsmen that the visitors came to see lawmakers but merely stared into space when asked if he met with them on behalf of the lawmakers. When pressed further, he reminded the newsmen that fasting has just started so he should be left without stress. He thereafter, smiled and drove off in his official car.
