NLC Insists on Repairs of Refineries From Tunde Sanni in Ilorin Kwara State chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Emma-nuel Ayeoribe has diagreed with the Federal Government on the setting up a committee to cushion the effects of increases in petroleum price as the solution to the problem in the oil sector. Speaking with THISDAY in Ilorin, the labour leader instead insisted on the proper rehabilitation of all the existing nation's refineries s one of the best way of beating down the constant hike in the prices of petroleum products. He said when the refineries were put in proper shape and working in full capacity prices of petroleum products would be forced to come down. "Palliative is not the solution to the problem. Who cares about palliatives, so far as I am concerned I dont think that is the solution to the problem in the industry. "Let the government repair all our refineries and let them work at full capacity and allow private investors to invest in the industry by establishing refineries and let them compete with the NNPC, by that price would be forced down," he added. Ayeoribe expressed pessimism over the setting up of the committee adding that nothing would come out of it since it is an advisory committree which the president is not bound to take. The labour leader, who expressed satisfaction over the strike in the state said the leadership of the union would meet with the officials of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENGW) on how to strenghen the strike in the state.
