FCC Counter-productive, Says Igbinedion From Omon-Julius Onabu in Benin-City Govenor Lucky Igbinedion of Edo State yesterday declared that was not supportive of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), describing it as counter-productive. Igbinedion, said this yesterday when received Com-0missioner representing Edo State at the Commission, Honourable Emmanuel Ide-hen, adding that he would not make words about his feelings concerning the body. "I am not in support of the commission's existence," the governor said of the FCC, adding that it was counter-productive to the extent that it promotes mediocrity, rather than encourage competence in the system. He expressed hope that the nation would soon attain such a level where the weighted criterion would be competence, as against discriminatory policy being promoted by the commission through its activities. The governor assured Idehen, who said he was at the governor's office to intimate him about his appointment, that his administration would continue to place emphasis on policies and programmes which promote ideals towards equity and even development. In another development, Igbinedion commended the media for presenting the varied views and opinions of the diverse interests in the country, adding that sustaining the varied views on the national discourse is the hallmark of democratic norms.
