Control Cost of Production FG Urged

Federal Government has been urged to reduce of producing goods and services, in the country .
Brett D. Schaefer, Jay Kingham fellow of International Regulatory Affairs at Heritage Foundation in Washington D.C. said this yesterday in a lecture he delivered to executive and legislative council of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Government in Lagos State.
Schaefer, who who was accompanied by Michael Oluwatuyi, of he Institute of Public Policy Analysis, Lagos, escalating costs said he was in Nigeria on a mission to measure the level of economic freedom also present a book titled: 2004 index of Economic Freedom from which he quoted copiously.
He advised that government endeavour to find out what policy suits its peculiar situation and best for economic growth instead of importing policies that were effective in other countries, without considering its own peculiarities.
In a welcome address read in behalf of the council chairman, Honourable Yemi Alli by the vice-chairman, honourable Razak Ajala gave a brief history of the council to enable the visitor have enough working knowledge of it.
He said the council is made up of different categories of people a greater percentage of it jobless youth, among whom are about 35% who are without education and any reasonable means of livelihood.
He said though the council hosts industries and banks, their presence has not enhance positive economic development as a result of stringent economic conditions.
He said despite all inadequacies, the council lives to play its role of providing basic social amenities and alleviate the suffering of its people the best way it could.
He enjoined Schaefer to examine the challenges and opportunities aimed improving the living standards of the council residents, and present it to the appropriate quarters for assistance.
Present at the event were leader of the legislature, Honourable Tunde Alli, Council Secretary Foluso Agbebiyi, Head, Personnel Management Mrs Olaide Atunrase and Honourable Babatunde Oniya, among others.
