Obasanjo Commissions N145m Road Project

President Olusegun Obasanjo has commissioned the over N145 million Bauchi road project as well as the N356.45 million Tambari Housing Estate built by the Bauchi State government.
Obasanjo while commissoning the projects praised the state government of embarking on people-oriented developmental projects adding tat the even distribution of the dividends of democracy was a testimony that democracy was on course in the state.
The President who observed that when the citizenry get the desired developmental projects they would support and cooperate with the government, challenged state and local governments to continue to execute policies, programmes and projects that have direct bearing on the lives of her citizens.
Obasanjo then charged the people, particularly the beneficiaries of the projects to jealously guard them against vandalisation, because according to him they were put there in the first place to serve as their convenience and development.
In his address, the Bauchi State Governor, Dr Ahmadu Adamu Mu'azu said that the execution of the projects were partial fulfillment of the state government's determination to satisfy the yearnings and aspirations of the people by providing infrastructural facilities aimed at uplifting their living condition.
Mu'azu noted that the provision of basic infrastructural facilities such as roads and shelter to the teeming populace has been the cornerstone of this administration explaining that since assumption of office in 1999, "we have continued to demonstrate our intention to uplift the living standard of our people."
According to him, "we consider road and shelter to be the bedrock of development and amongst the basic essential needs of man, and the road which your excellency just commissioned is a Federal Government road but its rehabilitation was awarded by the Bauchi State government at the cost of N145,338,366.10."
he added that the Tambari Housing estate formed part of the government's carefully designed policy and programmes aimed at providing decent shelter to the teeming populace at the cost of N356,449,237.

The governor told President Obasanjo that his administration bought the estate at the cost of N80 million and in order to facilitate the early completion of the project, the state government secured a loan of N356,449,237 from the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMB) late last year but however disclosed that already N229,053,431.03 or 64 per cent of the loan had been repaid leaving a balance of N127,395,805.69 or 36 per cent.
He said that to make the houses habitable and in keeping with the terms of the loan, the administration awarded three contract for the provision of basic infrastructure at the total cost of N376.4 million adding that the VIP suite project comprises 12 modern chalets with a reception hall, restaurant, a swimming pool and standby generator at the cost of N314,173,435.03.
