Ladoja Hails BATNF's Poverty Alleviation Initiative Oyo From Ademola Adeyemo in Ibadan Oyo State Governor, Senator Rasheed Ladoja, has commended the British-American Tobacco Nigeria Foundation (BATNF) for identifying with the host communities through by implementing humanitarian programmes. Ladoja, who spoke in Ibadan while commissioning the Apete Awowo solar powered boreholes sponsored by the Foundation, said Oyo State was most fortunate to host BAT that has provided employment opportunities for Nigerians and contribute in no small measure to the provision of growth of the country and Oyo State in particular. Earlier, in his welcome address, the chairman of BATN Foundation, Prof. Olu Akinkugbe, said it was established to operate throughout Nigeria on a series of local initiatives and projects with focus on provision of potable water to communities in critical need of water and agricultural development. One of the Foundation's aims, according to him, was environmental protection and poverty reduction. "Other areas the foundation is established to support are provision of relief materials to victims of disasters" and also "immunisation delivery." According to him, the Foundation has spent a sum of N3 million to provide the solar powered boreholes. "This solar powered boreholes is equipped with 20,000 litres overhead water tank, brick-walled water management kiosk and five collection taps," he added. Akinkugbe disclosed that his foundation would train two members of the community on the management of the entire borehole system.
