FG to Complete Abandoned Road Projects
Taraba

Minister of Works, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, has re-stated President Olusegun Obasanjo administration's commitment to complete all on-going and abandoned road projects nationwide.

He made the disclosure in his office while receiving a delegation of concerned citizens of Bali Local Government area in Taraba State, who visited him to intimate him of the complete demobilisation from site of Messrs. Stirling Civil Engineering (Nig.) Limited, the contractor handling the Mararaba-Bali federal road in the state.

Ogunlewe informed the visitors that he had earlier raised the matter with the President and Vice President Atiku Ababakar and both of them have shown a lot of concern and have pledged to complete the road project, which is an important link in the North-eastern zone.

He said Stirling has 5 projects in different parts of the country, which they have abandoned at different stages of completion, owing to some managerial problems in the company.

Ogunlewe told the visitors that he had also asked the Federal Highways Department to make an assessment and that a full situation report would be availed him next week when all Federal Controllers would meet in Abuja to brief the management of the ministry.

The minister assured them that the back-filling of the bridge could be completed in two weeks and that all other things that would make the road passable would be done as soon as possible either by the ministry's engineers or by re-awarding the project to another contractor.

Earlier, Hon. Dahiru Bako Gassol, representing the Bali/Gassol Federal Constituency in the House of Representative, who led the 13-man delegation and the Chairman Bali Local Government, Alhaji Abubakar Mahmud, thanked the minister and the President for the laudable programme of road recovery being carried out through FERMA.

Mahmud remarked that vehicles all over the country would have by now been totally grounded if the Operation 500 Roads programme had not been launched with able and committed public officers like Ogunlewe on the ground to superintend it.
