2007: Bauchi SSG Urged to Contest Guber Polls
From Segun Awofadeji in Bauchi
As the battle for the successor of the Bauchi State Governor, Adamu Muazu gathers steam, a group of youth from the Katagum zone of the state led by Bello Muazu Shira has made passionate plea to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Muhamadu Nadada-Umar to contest the state gubernatorial election in 2007.
The resolution to adopt the SSG by the youth which was contained in a booklet and made available to THISDAY in Bauchi was one of the numerous letters and publications from individuals, groups and organisations insisting that Nadada-Umar joins the gubernatorial race for the coveted seat of the Bauchi Government House come 2007.
The group said it is adopting Nadada-Umar because of his credible services to the people, adding emphatically that "we have adopted Alhaji Muhamad Nadada-Umar to contest for governor of the state in 2007 because of histrack record of performance both in and outside government services.
According to the group leader, "Nadada-Umar is the ideal choice for continuity as he is the most experienced for the job, a loyal secretary to the state government and insider who deserve to step into the shoes of incumbent governor, Adamu Muazu".
Shira however acknowledged his respect for other people from the zone who had shown interest in the plum job, but noted that, Nadada Umar has the edge being an insider and a tested technocrat.
He therefore appealed to well meaning people of the state to join in the crusade to draft the Zannan Misau to contest the 2007 gubernationatorial election to allow for continuity and enable the actualisation of his kind of vision to place the state in her rightful position in the country.
" As a young, energetic, charismatic and new generation leader, Nadada Umar symbolises the current agitation for a positive change the state needs and continuity to consolidate on the gains of democracy put in place by Governor Mu'azu", he added.
When contacted, the SSG said the time is not yet ripe to comment on the issue and hinted that he hopes to announce his intention at the appropriate time and forum.
