Council imposes curfew on Kogi community over violence
From Ralph Omololu Agbana, Lokoja
A DUSK to dawn curfew has been imposed on Ogamina, in Adari Local Council of Kogi State by the Council Chairman, Alhaji Abdulrahman Badamasi, following a four-day communal unrest.
The crisis, which started on Monday last week was allegedly triggered by a clash between two masquerade groups at the yearly masquerade festival, known as Echeane Festival.
Dangerous weapons were freely used by the rival groups during the four days that the violence lasted. Anti-riot policemen were at the weekend deployed to the area to curb further hostilities.
The Police Commissioner, Mr. Bamidele Thomas, on Friday reportedly visited the troubled town to monitor the situation. The Guardian learnt that calm has returned to the town and no casualty was recorded.
