A chieftain of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Godwin Dabo Adzuana, has asked the
Administrator of Plateau State, Major General Chris Ali (rtd), to prepare
to hand-over power to suspended Governor Joshua Dariye on November 18 at
the expiration of the emergency rule.
He said Dariye has the mandate
of people to lead them till 2007.
In a chat with Daily
Independent in Jos at the weekend, Dabo said if Dariye comes back to power
and anybody wants him removed, such person should follow the due process
of the law.
Let the House of Assembly
investigate Dariye and remove him. It is not possible to remove him
through the back door, he said.
Dabo, who is the national
auditor of the PDP in the North-Central zone, said President Olusegun
Obasanjo had inflicted punitive measures on Dariye in the last five
months, adding that at end of the period, Dariye should be returned to
complete his tenure.
He urged political leaders in
the state to work collectively for the restoration of the status quo,
adding that Dariye and the Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantu, should
put behind them their differences in the interest of the state and the
Middle Belt.
I am aware that Dariye has
gone on a spiritual journey and learnt his lessons. If given the
opportunity to return, he would correct the mistakes of the past. Let me
call on Mantu not to obstruct Dariyes return. I know Mantu is not happy
with Dariye for not taking his advises but since Mantu is close to
Obasanjo he has a role to play in what happens on the Plateau as from
November 18, Dabo said.
Dabo hinted that Alli never
thought that he would be opportune to rule Plateau again after he served
as military governor under General Ibrahim Babangidas regime.
He advised Alli not to be
partial in handling the Plateau conflict especially after he was accused
of falling back on his old friends while ignoring those who are currently
in charge of the polity of the state.
Dabo urged stakeholders in the
state like Chief Solomon Lar, D.T. Sango, Mantu, Pauline Tallen, Fidelis
Tapgun, Dariye and Air Commodore Jonah Jang (Rtd) to meet and resolve
their differences so as to end the friction in their fold.
He said the state has a lot of
tourism potentials but that unless there is reconciliation and forgiveness
among the political class, no tourist would come to invest in an
atmosphere of tension.
