The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will soon arraign the chief executive of Sino Afric, Alhaji Muftau Baba Ahmed before the Kano High Court over the failed N4 billion fertiliser contract awa-rded by Kano State government sometime in July last year.
Kano State commissioner of information, Alhaji Garba Abubakar Yusuf who disclosed this in Kano said EFCC has contacted the state government on its preparation to file the case in Kano but add-ed that it is not a case pursued by Kano State government.
“I want to make it categorically clear that the Kano State government is not interested in taking anybody to court, what we are concerned about is the retrieval of Kano peoples monies that we paid to the contractor for the supply of fertiliser, the contract which we have already canc-elled,” he stressed.
He added that the state government is yet to receive the over one billion naira alre-ady collected from the contractor by EFCC, saying the arrangement is not to collect the money in piece meal from EFCC. The commissioner also refuted allegations that the state Governor Malam Ibr-ahim Shekarau travelled out of the country for over nine times since he became gove-rnor of the state.
He said that the governor only travelled out of the cou-ntry on three occasions, and each was on invitation of the host countries or communities in the countries.
Alhaji Garba said Malam Shekarau’s first trip was to the United States where he was invited to deliver a lect-ure on Sharia and he also used the opportunity to discuss business possibilities for the state. The second foreign trip of the governor, according to the information commissioner, was to Brazil on invitation to attend the International Teachers Forum.
The current trip to USA and China, he said, was on the invitation of Nigerians in USA who want to honour him for running a transparent, honest and purposeful gove-rnment.
The China trip, he said was actually paid for by the host country and it was to acquaint the governor with a new housing scheme using special bricks which is expected to be built in the 44 local government areas of Kano.
Alhaji Garba Yusuf said each local government will get 15 of such houses while agricultural agreements are also expected to be signed during the governor’s visit to China.
