A member of the House of Representatives representing Misau and Dambam federal constituency in Bauchi State, Hon. Bala Abdullahi (PDP) has called on the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to device means of compelling President Olusegun Obasanjo to adopt and respect democratic tenets and approach in his style of governance.
Hon. Abdullahi, who spoke to Daily Trust in a telephone interview, lamented that President Obasanjo was not a respecter of democracy and is not ready to imbibe democratic norms and values in his style of leadership warning that the situation calls for the intervention of the executive of the party before it assumes an insoluble proportion.
“The man who still behaves more like a General in a jungle or battle field, has shown, several limes, his disdain for democratic institutions and all other arms of government. He behaves in doing his things or evolving policies without minding the consequences of such policies on the country and its citizenry,” the lawmaker opined.
Hon. Abdullahi stated that the latest hike in the price of petroleum and other allied products which most responsible Nigerians objected to was typical of Obasnajo’s style of his governance which most often disrespect to the wishes of the majority alleging that in most of actions, the President is simply acting the script of his western masters and manipulators of the world economy, the IMF and World Bank.
The lawmaker stated that majority of members of the National Assembly and PDP stakeholders as well as most Nigerians were not in support of the fuel hike and other unpopular policies of the president saying that the fuel price increase is not done in good faith or in the best interest of Nigerians but that of the neo-colonialists.
He warned that unless President Obasanjo treaded the democratic path carefully, he may eventually plunge the country into serious mess that could truncate our march towards ideal and progressive democracy.
On the allegation of complicity with the President against the lawmakers, Hon. Abdullahi responded thus; “No, it is not true, one thing I however, know and can say without ear of contradiction is that the President is taking advantage of the inexperience of some of the new members in the National Assembly to divide and rule the NASS.
“But despite this, we especially in the lower chamber of the National Assembly, have been trying our best to steer the country to greater heights by legislating and passing bills that will translate into the progress and social well being of the Nigerian people,” he added.
