… robbers raid POWA Shopping Complex

The strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress against the increase in the pump prices of petroleum products nationwide has started taking its toll on shop owners as robbers on Tuesday invaded Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) Shopping Complex, Obalende and carted away wares worth thousands of naira.
The robbers were said to have cashed in on the stay-at-home order of the NLC over the hike in the prices of petroleum products to sneak into the complex.
But for the prompt response of men of the operation-five-for-fire who prevented the bandits from breaking into several other shops as one of the robbers was arrested at the scene of the crime.
Sources at the police headquarters in Lion Building said the suspect identified as one Kola Adesoloye had already made useful confessional statement that is now helping the police to trail fleeing members of the gang.
Confirming the arrest, Lagos command public relations officer, Emmanuel Ighodalo said the case was under investigation with a view to clamping down on fleeing members of the gang.
Ighodalo explained that the robbery took place at about 10.15 pm stressing that the distress call on the activities of the bandits was received at Onikan police station and policemen were sent immediately to prevent the “hoodlums from breaking and entering into more shops in the complex.
In another development, the police in Lagos have arrested two persons for allegedly vandalising petroleum pipeline around Ajegunle, a suburb in the metropolis.
The vandals identified as Messrs Eniafe Ojojo and Robinson Ayetoba were reportedly arrested by men of the Lagos State police task force on pipeline vandalisation.
Police spokesman, Emmanuel Ighodalo who confirmed the arrest said several equipment used by the vandals to illegally siphon petroleum products were recovered and deposited as exhibits.
The items according to Ighodalo were one pumping machine, one bucket containing vandalisation equipment, one thousand five hundred and fifty litres of engine oil and one marine communication equipment (SSB sailor marine).
