Makarfi Seeks Probe of Police Allocations From in Agaju Madugba in Kaduna Kaduna state governor, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, has asked the National Assembly to probe annual monetary allocations the police arguing that states actually fund operations of the police formations across the country. Declaring open a retreat for members of the House of Representatives committee on Finance and Appropriation, in Kaduna, yesterday. Makarfi equally requested the National Assembly to intervene because "the police eat away federal allocations to the states." Makarfi also named the Prison and Immigration services as other federal institutions that rely on states for survival. According to him, "when we see the size of the budgets that go to federal institutions and when we look at how the institutions function in the states, you find that 90 percent of their operational funds are grants they receive from the states. "So, what do they go to defend at the National Assembly and if it is approved and disbursed what happens to the money? "It is important for us to know how much the police commands get and how much goes to each of the various commands of Immigration". Makarfi said the National Assembly should evolve mechanisms to ensure monitoring implementation of the budget by the Presidency. Chairman of the House Finance Committee, Farouk Lawal, explained that the retreat was second in the series of programmes to put the nation's budget process in proper perspective for smoother implementation.
