Oyinlola Tasks FG on Education
From Hammed Shittu in Osogbo

Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola has called on the Federal Government to strive harder towards developing education sector in order to enable the sector to meet up the required international standards.

Oyinlola disclosed this during the N500 million endowment and development fund held for the state College of Education Ilesa.

According to him, "the importance of education in the overall development of any nation cannot be overemphasised and all efforts should be geared towards its development."

He said that "the financing of education should not be needed as government's sole responsibility, philanthropists, corporate bodies, non-governmental organisations and individuals have a great role to play in the development of education in order to improve its standards and quality."

Oyinlola who was represented at the occasion by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Fatai Akinbode added that "teacher education, in particular, occupies a special position in one country's educational development." He stressed that "the standard of teacher education in a country determines to a great extent, the level of development that a given society may attain and we must all join hands together to develop the teacher education."

Oyinlola noted further that the launching of N500 million endowment and development fund in the college was meant to rehabilitate the decay facilities, inadequate equipment and lack of human resources in the institution.

While stating that the present government in the state was not relenting in its effort at developing the college and the higher institutions in the state, the state governor therefore appealed to the invited guests to donate generously to the launching in order to move the school forward.

Earlier, the provost of the state College of Education, Ilesa, Professor Isaac Abimbola stated that for the nation to achieve its goal of national development, teacher education deserves a special attention.

He said that that was why the management of the college called on the wealthy Nigerians to come to the aid of the college so as to attain its desired goals in the educational excellence of the citizenry.

professor Abimbola who stated that the college which was established in 1978 had all its infrastructure dilapidated however appealed to the people to contribute towards the launching in order to move the college forward.

Over N10 million was realised at the launching with Lagos State government promised to donate an ambulance vehicle and all its accessories and the Osun State government donated N1 million to the launching.
