Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola has called on the Federal Government to strive harder towards developing education sector in order to enable the sector to meet up the required international standards.
Oyinlola disclosed this during the N500 million endowment and development fund held for the state College of Education Ilesa.
According to him, "the importance of education in the overall development of any nation cannot be overemphasised and all efforts should be geared towards its development."
He said that "the financing of education should not be needed as government's sole responsibility, philanthropists, corporate bodies, non-governmental organisations and individuals have a great role to play in the development of education in order to improve its standards and quality."
Oyinlola who was represented at the occasion by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Fatai Akinbode added that "teacher education, in particular, occupies a special position in one country's educational development."
