From Toba Suleiman in Abeokuta

In its bid to make Agriculture the mainstay of the state's economy, Ogun State government has signified its intention to work towards the success of the second phase of Fadama Project,(irrigable farming) which kicked off recently in the state.

Deputy Governor, Alhaja Salimot Badru disclosed this in Abeokuta while receiving the World Bank Task Team Leader on Fadama, Dr Sidi Jammeh in her office.

Badru, who received the visiting World Bank delegates on behalf of Governor, Gbenga Daniel, said "Since 75 per cent of the state population are farmers, government has no option than to contribute to the Fadama project."

Badru expressed happiness at the wonderful job been embarked upon by the state Fadama Project to enlighten the rural dwellers" and urged the World Bank officials to ensure proper implementation of the project, as the state would leave no stone unturned in its quest to be the food basket of the nation.

"This government is committed to the welfare of its people especially the rural dwellers," Badru said, noting that the government's counterpart fund for the Fadama project was ready.

She thanked the World Bank for choosing the state as one of the benefiting states of the project. Speaking earlier, Dr Sidi Jammeh, said he was in the state to connect, for the first time, with the Fadama families, hinted of a paradigm shift in the second phase of the Project.

According to him, the World Bank has decided to adopt an approach to development, characterised by empowering rural communities with resources and provide them with necessary technical assistance and training.
