Govt to Provide N300m Loan for Farmers Gombe From Saka Ibrahim in Gombe Gombe State government is negotiating N300 million loan with the Nigerian Agricultural Cooperatives and Rural Development Bank for its farmers, to boost food production. State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Alhaji Daim Biri,, who disclosed this yesterday at a press conference to mark this year's World Food Day, said government was determined to improve farmers' access to credit. According to him, government had paid this year's counter funding for Fadama II project, and the projects had taken off. He said improved seeds worth N3 million had been procured and sold to farmers at subsidised rates. Said Biri, "in order to ensure and guarantee food security for Gombe State, and indeed for the nation, the state government has undertaken various steps, taking into consideration the implications of bio-diversity. Besides, he said government procured improved cotton seeds and sold to farmers at 50 per cent subsidy, while government farm centres have been renovated at a cost of over N13 million. He said 20,000 tonnes of assorted fertiliser were procured and distributed at subsidised rates to farmers "the highest ever in the history of the state," adding that government refurbished 25 old tractors and procured 29 new ones.
