Council Chairman, Leader Suspended Ogun From Toba Suleiman in Abeokuta Chairman, Abeokuta South Local Government of Ogun State, Mr Donaldson Abiodun Ajayi, has been suspended indefinitely from office with immediate effect. Ajayi, who was suspended by the legislative arm of the Council, was accused of embarking on projects worth over N7 million without the knowledge of the councillors. Apart from that, he was also alleged to have collected over N100 million from the Federation Account since the inception of his administration without any tangible projects to show for it. Besides, the lawmakers also impeached the Leader of the House, Honourable Dotun Akinmade, who has been replaced immediately with Honourable Nurudeen Adekanbi. While Ajayi was fired for alleged non-performance, arrogance and non-accessibility, Akinmade was removed for being a stumbling block in the past efforts of the lawmakers to call the suspended chairman to order. It was reliably gathered that the suspension enjoyed the full support of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders in the local government. Ajayi lost his seat temporarily via 9-5 votes by members, while Akinmade was removed with 9-3 votes. Meanwhile, in compliance with the resolution of the House No ASIG 578/3/116 dated October 15, 2004, the Vice-Chairman of the Council, Honourable Hakeem Odejimi had taken over leadership. Speaking with newsmen shortly after the exercise, the mover of the motion that led to the Chairman's suspension, Hon. Oluwaseun Folawole, described Ajayi's administration as a complete disappointment and failure. According to him, "Ajayi's administration has done nothing to justify its existence in terms of development of the local government".
