UACN Fetes Customers on World Food Day
Lagos

The dimension of compassion was highlighted during the commemoration of the World Food Day in Lagos, when officials of UAC Foods, a division of UACN Plc, distributed various food items freely to members of the Nigerian public.
The event took place at Ojota bus stop, opposite the company's corporate headquarter's main entrance at Ojota, along Ikorodu road, Lagos, between 10 a.m. and 12 noon.
Many Nigerians numbering over one thousand vied for free food, which included Nourish Bread, Gala Sausage Rolls and Delite Fruit Drinks.
According to Mrs Deola Kasali, Marketing Services Support Manager, who led the UAC Foods team to the food kitchen, the event was motivated by "our sensitivity to the plight of Nigerians in this era when Nigerians go through the pains caused by the high cost of living."
In her view, UAC Foods believes firmly that the society has an obligation to ensure that food is abundant and accessible to all members of the society. She said the cost of food, on a global scale has dropped radically in the past four decades everywhere else, except in Africa where personal and domestic income levels remain abysmal and insufficient to demand quality food.
"The symbolic distribution of food by UAC Foods is aimed at sensitising the Nigerian public to the realities regarding the easy availability and affordability of food on a world scale and on the need for Africa, particularly Nigeria, to catch up with the global average in food access."
For Lukeman Mufutau, an apprentice mechanic and beneficiary of the UAC largesse, it is commendable that a 'Nigerian company can undertake this manner of initiative in a country where the government which controls our entire resources does not care about the welfare of the common people. My prayer is for UAC Foods to sustain this people oriented gesture beyond today and this year.'
Kasali assured that her organisation would remain committed to elevating the food access and nutritional quality of Nigerians. 'This is why the distribution of free, qualitative food items to Nigerians may become an integral component of our company's activity calendar,' she concluded, while appealing to 'Nigerian corporate entities and government alike to demonstrate a greater commitment to uplifting Nigerians' nutritional standards.'
UAC Foods is one of Nigeria's foremost food companies. The company is the manufacturer of 'Nourish Bread,' 'Gala Sausage Rolls,' 'Supreme Ice Cream,' 'Delite Fruit Drink,' 'Satis Sausages' and a host of other food products which are well known in the Nigerian market place.
