'Subscriber Base Not About Numbers Alone, But Quality'

The general manager, marketing, for MTN Nigeria, Mr. Olu Akanmu, has said that the leadership of the MTN network in Nigeria is unassailable as the only network with the highest number of elite, committed and brand loyalist spenders . This he said account for MTN`s control of 60% of GSM spendings in Nigeria

Speaking with THISDAY last week, Mr. Akanmu said that the success of MTN is based on the calibre of people on the network who are mostly AB class in reality, and in aspirations. This people see the MTN brand as a brand beyond phone, but emotional intangibles. "The value of business commitment to MTN his very high, compared to other networks. An average person on the MTN network sees it as a status symbol" , he said.

Another reasons for the brands position according to the marketing boss, is in the kind of leveraging MTN does. This to him "makes the brand stand out of the crowd".

On network reach, Mr. Akanmu postulated that the MTN network is still the most widely spread network in Nigeria, especially, to the remotest part of Nigeria where other networks are yet to get to.
