What's Beautiful?
The whole town is awash with the new teaser of yellow property. People are asking "What Is Beautiful ?" Tunmise Adekunle also asks "What Is Beautiful ?"
Is it nature? Is it poetry? Is it love? Is it friendship? Is it freedom? Is it success? Is it achievement? What are other dimensions of beauty?
On posters with yellow background, it is beautiful. On Unipole and Spectacular billboard, it is "Beautiful" on yellow background. On television, teasers show nature and happy people with the poser, "What's Beautiful". On radio it is the same "What' s Beautiful ?"
What is this teaser about? And who is behind it?
"What's Beautiful ?"
This is a pertinent question that have been agitating the minds of many a number of Nigerians lately. The question or rather the poser is by THISDAY checks an harbinger to a current pan-Nigerian campaign with bigger and more grandiose impact that may break anytime from now.
"What's Beautiful ?"
As the bright, big posters ask everybody. Same question was directed to a number of people on the street. Responses were as diverse as they were varied in their opinions and beliefs. Out of the whole lot, some areas of convergent still existed.
"What's Beautiful ?"
What could one say is beautiful at least to answer the paradox posted by the unfolding campaign? Its different answers to different strokes.
"What's Beautiful ?"
As we go out to seek public opinion, respondents cutting across all professional and social strata claimed they are aware of the campaign but trying to decipher its mission. Why some reasoned it could be a fashion statement, some say it is out to promote music or another form of art, yet another group suggests it may be out to promote a social course. But a segment of this class insists that it is marketing gimmick to either launch a new product or reinforce an existing one that has been doing well in the market. It is however agreed that the following could make life beautiful, these include achievement or success, freedom; connection to opportunity, meaningful relationship, nurturing good family ties and neighborliness among others.
"What's Beautiful ?"
Some say life is beautiful when one records success either professionally, martially, financially. Others say it is happy family, when neighbours appreciate one, or when one is connected to opportunities, good and meaningful relationships that are yielding positive results for one. "What's Beautiful ?"
No denying the fact that the posters are truly ubiquitous, one other thing that is obvious is the dominant yellow or is it Y'ello colour of the campaign material. Though, there are other brands that employ the colour but the color in Nigeria is synonymous with one of the GSM network providers. Moreso, only a handful of advertisers can muscle the financial challenge of financing a pan Nigerian campaign.
"What's Beautiful ?"
This factor, also points to the possibility of the sponsor being from the bourgeoning telecommunications sector. Effort to unravel the real sponsors failed to yield result. Media owners especially outdoor companies and advert department of Newspaper houses declined to disclose the companies behind these unmarked teaser materials.
"What's Beautiful ?"
Ample evidence, coupled with the fact that all GSM network providers except one, MTN have a new campaign running. But typical of the network, its new campaigns are always introduced in a unique way that builds the brand's character of fun into the campaign. Who is behind this? How? To what effect? How beautiful will the "What 's Beautiful ?" campaign be? Will it be internationally or locally flavoured?
These are issues events in the next couple of days will unveil.
