Prison inmate confesses cannibalism, CJ stunned
SEGUN JAMES,
Warri
Disbelief and
shock were written on the face of Chief Judge (CJ) of Delta State, Justice
Roseline Bozimo, when an inmate of Warri prisons narrated to her how he and his
gang kidnapped, butchered and ate human flesh.
At the same prison, the CJ ordered that
Police Constable Lawanson Momoh, attached to Warri Area Division, be made to
face orderly room trial for allegedly framing a murder charge against a young
woman who refused his sexual advances.
Inmate Yakuba Umaru, facing trial for
killing three persons, told the CJ that soon after kidnapping and killing their
victims, relevant parts of the body were butchered for sale to "pastors" and
other persons.
According to him, the unwanted parts were
then consumed by the gang.
Umaru said that fleshy persons were called
"Toyota by the group while the flesh of lean people was called "Ijaw meat".
Although no detail could be gotten as to
where the atrocities, so vividly described by Umaru took place he was returned
to prison custody to await trial.
On the matter involving the constable,
Justice Bozimo ordered that Momoh be charged following the revelation of Miss
Happiness Chimere, the victim, at the prison.
Given the opportunity to say what brought
her to the prison, Happiness narrated that Momoh’s girlfriend was her friend and
room mate.
According to her, the room was rented by
Momoh, but on a particular day when the girlfriend was not around the constable
allegedly visited.
She alleged that he requested for water to
drink, adding that as she was about to fetch it for him, he grabbed her from
behind, but she managed to wiggle her way out.
Annoyed at the reaction, she further
alleged Momoh went away only to come back 10 minutes later to arrest her for the
alleged murder of one "Kazeem" Since then she disclosed, she has been remanded
in prison custody from last year.
The CJ on hearing her story, called for
the case file and on close study, it was found that Momoh was not only the
investigating Police Officer (IPO) he was also the accuser.
Justice Bozimo, therefore, called for
Momoh, who upon interrogation, could not produce the body of the said Kazeen, or
even an autopsy, a witness or the place where the alleged murder took place.
Justice Bozimo therefore ordered the
release of Happiness, saying that Momoh is a disgrace to the police force.
She also ordered that he be given orderly
room trial for using his uniform to intimidate members of the public.
