Turaki has no intention to leave ANPP but... --Source

From MUAWUYA B. IDRIS, Dutse

GOVERNOR Ibrahim Saminu Turaki of Jigawa state has no intension to decamp to PDP even though a formal invitation has been extended to him by Vice-President Atiku Abubakar to help him fulfil his presidential ambition, come 2007.

One of the close political associates of Governor Turaki told Daily Triumph in Dutse that it is true that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar had approached Governor Turaki and some of his political associates to help him in his struggle to clinch the 2007 presidential election.

The political associate who sought anonymity, recalled that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar had met with Governor Turaki during a turbaning ceremony in Adamawa state and had extended the invitation then.

We were together with Governor Turaki when Alhaji Atiku Abubakar extended an invitation to us to decamp to PDP and help him on his presidential ambition, he further revealed.

He explained that the Vice President had told Governor Turaki that PDP had lost confidence in its Jigawa leadership and needed strong people to salvage it.

The political associate said during the meeting, Governor Turaki had neither accepted nor turned down the invitation.

We were given one year to study the invitation and report back our final decision, he added.

The political associate explained that Governor Turaki may accept the invitation in view of some contributions offered to him by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar which facilitated his return for second term in office.

According to him, close political associates of Governor Turaki decided to keep mum on the issue because nobody wants to offend him or cause him any problem.
