AS the former governor of Kano state, Dr.
Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso once again refused to appear before the commission of
inquiry set up by the state government to investigate his tenure, the
chairman of the commission, Justice A.T. Badamasi has directed him to do so
next week, October 26, 2004.
Justice Badamasi gave the directive during the
commissions sitting yesterday, insisting that the former governor must
appear before the commission in person on the said date.
He reaffirmed again that considering the fact
that A.B. Mahmud and Dikko, Dr. Kwankwaso's counsel returned the summon
because of lack of receiving any authority to do so from their client, the
former governor's presence was therefore demanded again.
According to Justice Badamasi, before the
appointment, his commission was served with a restrain order from Abuja High
Court in addition to another one later received restraining the commission
from calling Dr. Kwankwaso to appear before it until the final determination
of the suit filed to enforce his fundamental human right.
However, the commission counsel, M.L. Ibrahim
averred that the letter of summon already sent to Dr. Kwankwaso's counsel
was replied back saying they had no mandate or authority to receive the
order without the consent of their client.
The commission has also received three more witnesses on the
alleged N9.4 million Kwankwaso's drainage contract, opposite Daula Hotel and
another one for N22.5 million for the drainage and culvert contract.
