FOLLOWING the discovery that a significant number of
youths have remained unemployed since the inception of the present
administration, Kano state government has initiated some programmes and
polices aimed at empowering youths in the state.
The special adviser to Governor Shekarau on youth
development, Malam Gambo Ado explained this at an occasion to mark the
inauguration ceremony of the newly appointed executive members of Youth
Movement of Nigeria (NYM), Kano state chapter.
Representing the state governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau
at the occasion, Malam Ado reiterated the commitment of the state government
in making youths to become gainfully employed and empowered.
Government, he said, had intended to achieve this
objective through its newly packaged youth empowerment scheme, a policy
aimed at initiating youths in various skills acquisition to enable them
become self-reliant.
According to him, government has come up with another
policy to ensure that the youths attain education at primary, Qur�anic,
secondary schools, tertiary institutions and up to university levels.
So far, Malam Ado said, a number of youths were employed
into the various cadre of human endeavours, expressing government�s
appreciation to the Sani Abacha Youth Centre for its youths development
efforts which he described as a support to the Shekarau youth empowerment
initiative.
He charged the newly-inaugurated youths to always be
guided by honesty and put the fear of Allah in the discharge of their
duties.
Earlier, the state commissioner for information, youths,
sports and culture, Alhaji Garba Yusuf Abubakar described youths as the
greatest assets a nation could have.
Represented by the permanent secretary of the ministry,
Malam Ahmed Imam Zubairu, the commissioner said as mature leaders, youths
became the potential investment for a country�s development.
On his part, the national president of the movement,
Alhaji Abubakar Isa expressed the need to mobilize youths and youths
organizations to participate in the state government�s societal
reorientation programme, A Daidaita Sahu.
Alhaji Isa said very soon, the institute of youth
development, Sani Abacha Youth Centre will introduce leadership training
programme for NGOs, CBOs, self-help groups, cooperative societies and
cultural groups in addition to their training programme on vocational skills
acquisition already in place.
The district head of Madobi, Alhaji Musa Sale Kwankwaso,
Majidadin Kano represented the Emir of Kano, Alhaji (Dr.) Ado Bayero.
Also, dignitaries at the occasion included the district
head of Bunkure, Barayan Kano, Alhaji Garba Gezawa, executive secretary,
Kano state pension board and Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Rumfa delivered a welcome
address.
Also, Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Rumfa, the national secretary
general of the movement delivered a welcome address while Alhaji Garba Geza,
executive secretary, Kano state pension board was among the dignitaries who
graced the occasion.
Meanwhile, the names of the newly inaugurated executive
members of the movement have been released with Alhaji Isyaku Isa Mammoga,
chairman, Kabiru Ali Dawakin Tofa, vice chairman, Auwalu Shehu Yakasai,
secretary and Idi Malam Soji Rano, treasurer.
The rest are Kabiru Muhammad and Mirinda, education secretary; Tafada
Yakasai, chairlady; Hadiza Ali Tudun Wada, assistant chairlady; Muhammad Isa
Gwammaja, financial secretary; A.A. Haruna Ayagi, publicity secretary;
Auwalu S. Chiroma, assistant publicity secretary and A�isha Rano, social
secretary respectively.
