FORMER military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi
Babangida, has been described as the only saving grace to the present
economic, social, ethnic and bigiotry in the country.
This assertion was made by his 2007 presidential campaign
coordinator in Jigawa state, Alhaji Muhammad Danladi Auyo at a state rally
he organised in Gumel town, Gumel local government area.
Auyo said that going by IBBs record when he led the
country for eight years, alot was achieved in improved standard of living
among the Nigerians.
He said that IBB is the only military leader who listened
to and worked with peoples advice, adding that during his regime, he tried
as much as possible to stop the religious and ethnic violence by uniting the
country as a single political entity.
He called on the people of Jigawa state, especially
youths to support IBB come 2007 as he is the leader who can address the
countrys social problems, lamenting that the present leadership of Jigawa
state is corrupt as only three per cent of the people of the state are
benefitting from the state government in terms of provision of social
amenities such as potable drinking water, improved health care delivery,
education and enhanced agricultural sector through the provision of
substantial fertiliser, modern farming implements and insecticide at the
subsidised rate, pointing out that based on this IBB deserved a second
chance.
According to the campaign coordinator, General Babangida
is axed in the country because he was the best leader Nigeria had ever had,
citing instances of organisations like the Directorate of Food, Roads and
Rural Infrastructure (DFFRI) and Better Life for Rural Women programme.
In his remarks, the campaign coordinator in-charge of the Northern
region, Alhaji Shuaibu Badegi, however said IBB has not said he will
contest in the 2007 election, but that it was majority of Nigerians who
invite him to go for the second run at the leadership because according to
him he is the only person that will rescue Nigerians from the present
socio-economic problems of the country.
