FIFA Goal Project: Contractors Report to Site From Juliana Taiwo in Abuja Following the surmon to Aso Rock of the Minister of Sports and Social Development, Col. Musa Mohammed (rtd) to explain the delay in the take off of the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) Goal Project, the contractors, Aron Nigeria Limited yesterday reported to site. The Consultant for the Project, Shehu Dikko said the contractors had to sort out some technical problems before commencement and hence the little delay. It would be recalled that Jean Manga, former Cameroonian soccer player and FIFA official, had during the signing ceremony last month, warned both the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) and the winner of the FIFA Goal Project contract, Aron Nigeria Limited that any delay in delivering the job in six months may stall further projects for the country. He had stressed that the project was meant to satisfy the national needs of the country and the objective was to reduce the level of infrastructure and to solve football development problems by providing a training centre. "To the contractor and the consultant, I must tell you if you can finish this project in the specified time, it won't stop here but if you fail it will affect further projects for Nigeria. It is for you to prove if you are a good contractor or not. Don't forget Nigeria football will be the better for it once this is completed," he had warned. Manga had promised that the papers would be certified in a matter of days once it gets to Zurich and the money would be released for immediate commencement of the project. The Chairman of Aron Nigeria Limited, Sir Francis Onipede, had assured that despite FIFA's stringent rules in the execution of the contract, his company is set to deliver a good job that would not only beat the deadline but of international standard."It is six months and there's no going back," he had said.
