Methodist Church Raises N25 Million for University From Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja Methodist Church of Nigeria yesterday realized more than N25 million from free-will donations towards the building of its proposed Wesley University of Science and Technology to be sited in Ondo State. Rivers State Government topped the list of donors who graced the rejuvenated La'Meriden Hotel, Abuja, venue of the fund raising event ceremony with the highest single donation of N15 million and a pledge to construct one student hostel for the University. Speaking at the event, the Minister of Transport, Dr. Abiye Sekeibo who also stood-in for the Rivers state Governor, Dr. Peter Odili, explained how grateful to Almighty God the people of Rivers state were after the recent peaceful resolution of the conflict between rival militia groups in the state. The minister who made a donation of N5 million unbehalf of his family and friends, said that it was something worth being thankful to God that President Olusegun Obasanjo was able to reconcile the feuding parties thereby safeguarding the lives and properties of innocent citizens in the area. Archbishop of the Methodist Church, Abuja Archdiocese, His Grace, Most Rev. Dr. Ebere Nze said the desire to establish an institution of higher learning was propelled by the need for the church to fulfill one of its cardinal roles which is to pursue the spiritual and social transformation of the people.
