2007: Early Campaigners Unemployed - Gombe PDP
From Saka Ibrahim in Gombe
Gombe State Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Nuhu Poloma, has said party supporters campaigning for former military President, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (rtd), Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Lagos Governor, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd) for 2007 presidential election are doing so because they are largely unemployed.
Poloma, in an interview with THISDAY, stated that such PDP supporters are not sincere.
According to him, those campaigning when political campaign for 2007 had not been lifted were only doing so in order to survive at all cost.
He said it was too early to campaign for any candidate now and that when the time comes, PDP national headquarters would give directives.
Poloma disclosed further: "I have a stand, my National Chairman, Chief Audu Ogbeh, has made a statement that it is too early for anybody to campaign for any candidate. The President who is the leader of the party somehow has made a statement that it is too early. Let us allow the government we have elected at local, state and national levels do their functions when the time comes, the national headquarters would give directives and based on that directive, we would now start campaigning."
"You see, most of the youths went into politics to have something to do. By this time, the serious political activities have ended because elections are over. They are not comfortable and they want to get where to survive. No employment, factories have closed, people graduated from secondary schools, universities and no job and that is why they have resorted to campaigns to engage themselves at least," he added.
The chairman however stressed that there was no law now banning people from campaigning for anybody. "It is too early now. But here in Gombe I have law or power to stop anybody from campaigning for A or B."
