Yobe Governor To Reshuffle Cabinet
FROM NJADVARA MUSA, DAMATURU
GOVERNOR Bukar Abba Ibrahim of Yobe State is to dissolve his cabinet next month because of poor performance of its members. The cabinet is made up of over 20 commissioners, special assistants and advisers.
Ibrahim disclosed his plan to dissolve the cabinet at Government House, Damaturu on Wednesday while briefing reporters on measures taken by his administration to check the poor performance of some of his commissioners, special advisers and assistants.
He said that the sack of the cabinet members was necessary for the effective implementation of government's policies and programmes that would meet the yearnings of the people.
According to him, more than half of the members of the cabinet have performed below the expectations of both the government and the electorate.
He said that the criteria employed to sack and appoint new commissioners, special advisers and assistants were- "ability to perform, accountability and prudence in the management of human and capital resources."
The three criteria, he maintained, would be solely applied in the presentation, screening and final appointment of the new commissioners next month, adding that because of the disproportionate representation of women in the cabinet, two more women commissioners would be appointed.
"It is a matter of time, I assure you that most of these commissioners have to go, because they failed the people and government of this young, growing state," Ibrahim said.
He continued: "What will happen next month is that the cabinet will be dissolved and replaced with new hands that will deliver the dividends of democracy in moving the state forward."
He said that by January next year, the affairs of the state would be run by new officials, so that the mistakes committed in the last five years would not be repeated for the remaining two and a half years.
