Obasanjo Sets Up Panel To Supply UN, AU Forces Food
PRESIDENT Olusegun Obasanjo has set up a committee charged with the task of examining how Nigerian food could be supplied to troops on the United Nations (UN) and African Union (AU) peace keeping operations.
Agriculture and Natural Resources Minister, Mallam Adamu Bello, announced this at the committee's inaugural meeting held in Abuja.
Bello was named chairman of the committee, said a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Tope Ajakaiye
Other members of the committee include, Minister of Defence, Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso; Foreign affairs, Olu Adeniji; Commerce Ambassador Idris Waziri and chairmen of two food processing companies, Jobitex Nigeria Limited and Benokin Foods and Beverages Limited.
Bello also said that the government's intention was to collaborate with the private sector with the initial aim of breaking into African Union supplies system before seeking the United Nations market.
In his own contribution, Defence Minister Rabiu Kwankwaso said that Nigerian manufacturers are already being encouraged through patronage by the Nigerian Armed Forces and the Police.
