Cleric Cautions Leaders Against Harsh Economic Policies
NIGERIAN leaders have been warned to desist from imposing stringent economic measures, which may have dire consequences on the welfare of the masses.
They have also been advised to reduce the recently increased pump price of petroleum products.
The call was made recently by the Archbishop of Lagos, Methodist Church Nigeria, The Most Rev. Sunday Ola Makinde in a statement.
The archbishop urged the nation's leaders to embrace dialogue rather than confrontation in finding solutions to the perennial problems facing the country. He also urged them to promote a peaceful co-existence among everybody in the land.
The cleric tasked them to revisit the hike and find other positive ways to cushion the suffering of the people, who they have assured through their manifesto to alleviate their problems.
Makinde warned on the consequence of such unpleasant national policies, which if not promptly reversed, could lead to an unimaginable event that might draw back the progress of the nation.
Labour leaders and other stake holders of the economy were also urged to embrace dialogue with the government in finding a lasting solution to the problem at hand, rather than going on strike and disrupting the peace of the nation.
The Methodist Archbishop of Lagos therefore enjoined all peace-loving Nigerians not to take laws into their hands, but to strive to arrest promptly, any ugly situation that might stem out of the recent increase in pump price of petroleum products.
