IG, Police Chiefs Review Security
FROM JOHN-ABBA OGBODO, ABUJA
Inspector General of Police Tafa Balogun and top police officers yesterday held a marathon meeting, reviewing the nation's security situation.
Speaking at the opening of the meeting, which was attended by deputy inspector generals of police (DIGs), Assistant inspector generals of police (AIGS), commissioners of police and other senior officers, Balogun said the meeting was convened to brainstorm on the nation's security, especially against the backdrops of some recent violent crimes.
The Guardian learnt that the police officers discussed the security situation in the country and reiterated the urgent need to re-enforce the various police formations nationwide, especially in the area of logistics.
Also, yesterday, the Inspector General of Police decorated two women who were part of the Super Falcons squad that won the African Champions Cup in South Africa recently with their new ranks.
Two of them - Kikelomo Ajayi and Oluropo Ojo - were promoted from constable to corporal, while the assistant coach of Falcons, Elizabeth Oginwoyi, a police sergeant, was given IG's commendation, which Balogun said would translate to promotion soon.
