Last Updated: Saturday, October 23rd, 2004 HOME | Previous Page Robbers raid RCCG Church •Cart away N2m tayo elebijo senior correspondent Armed men Wednesday morning stormed the Redeemed Christian Church of God, located at Palmgrove  bus-stop, Lagos and carted away N2million. No life was however, lost. The robbers reportedly gained access into the church after human activities had died down within the church area. The operation was carried out between 2.30 am and 5.00 am on Wednesday. The robbers were alleged to have searched all the nooks and crannies of the church premises before discovering  where the church money was kept. Thereafter, they broke the church vault and after removing the money, they held members of the congregation hostage and for several hours. It was gathered that the robbers actually  remained in the church, counted the money and shared their booty. They even engaged some of the members in some jokes before escaping. When Saturday Independent visited the church yesterday, its secretary who identified herself simply as Wemimo, confirmed the attack but declined further comments, saying “I am not qualified to talk on the issue. “I cannot grant any interview on the matter. I don’t know if you meet other members of the church who are my senior, they can tell you what you want to know”. But the Lagos Police Public Relations spokesman, Superintendent of Police Emma Ighodalo, told Saturday Independent that the robbery incident had not been reported  to any of the police stations in the state. “If they had reported it, I would have gotten the signal within 24 hours” he said.   Copyright� 2004.
