Ghanaian expert arrives for champion insurance

ARRANGEMENTS
have been concluded for the successful hosting of this year’s Champion
Insurance Day/Luncheon scheduled to hold at the Ikeja Sheraton Hotel and
Towers, Lagos.
Already, one of the major actors in
tomorrow’s all-important industry meeting, Ghana’s Commissioner for Insurance Ms
Josephine Jennifer Amoah, left Ghana this morning for Lagos aboard a Belview
Airline flight accompanied by some key players in the country’s insurance
industry.
Born on August 4, 1956, MS Amoah, who is a
1978 graduate of University of Ghana, Legaon, was on August 1, 2004 appointed
Ghana’s Commissioner of Insurance.
Ms Amoah was said to have played an active
role in the harmonization process of the Economic Community of West African
States (ECOWAS) Brown Card Scheme being the only technical insurance expert from
Anglo-phone west Africa on the committee for the harmonisation of motor vehicle
third party Insurance laws in West Africa.
But Nigeria’s Commissioner for Insurance,
Chief (Dr.) Dipo Bailey, who is expected as the guest speaker at this year’s
Champion Insurance Day/Luncheon has urged the industry operators to avail
them selves of the opportunity of the event to plot a new strategies for the
growth of the market.
The 2004 Champion Insurance
Day/Luncheon, the eight in the series, comes ahead of today’s consultative
meeting involving Minister of Finance, Dr (Mrs) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and the key
actors in the insurance business in a move that will set the tone for a
pronouncement on a new capital structure for the 104 insurance and reinsurance
companies in the country.
Chairman of the Champion Insurance
Day/Luncheon organising committee Mrs Ijeoma Enekwa, said yesterday that a
total 45 insurance re-insurance companies will be on parade tomorrow showcasing
their unique attributes and competitive advantages all in an attempt to allow
the insuring public the opportunity of making an informed choice.
Some of the dignitaries expected at the
forum include Minister of Finance Dr (Mrs) Okonjo-Iweala, Chief Leo Stan-Ekeh
who will be the chairman of the occasion, former Commissioner for Insurance,
Chief Eugene Okwor, Chief Ogala Osoka as well as Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu
executive chairman of Champion Newspapers Limited who will be the chief host.
Mrs Enekwa, who is the general manager in
charge of administration and personnel for Champion Newspapers Limited had
assured quests of a rewarding outing. This year’s Champion Insurance
Day/Luncheon has as theme: "growth and development of insurance industry in
Nigeria: A celebration of excellence."

players, including core risk underwriters, brokers and other ancillary service
