CHAMPION
Newspapers Limited and Radio Rivers (FM) station, Port Harcourt, are set to
collaborate in the area of manpower development, to raise the level of
professionalism in the nation’s media industry.
They also resolved to work together to
give effective media coverage to the eastern market.
Receiving the General Manager of Rivers
State Broadcasting Corporation Ms Mediline Tador who was at Champion House, the
corporate head office of Champion Newspapers Limited last weekend on a visit,
the Managing Director/Editor-In-Chief, Mr Emma Agu noted that Champion
Newspapers and the Radio house were undeniably, leading media agencies east of
the Niger, noting also that both shared a lot in common.
He said: "We can build on this reputation
or identify. There are many areas we can work together. We are re-engineering
our operations, putting in place Information Technology (IT) infrastructure. So
that technology can match manpower/human capital. We advocate for mutually
beneficial relationship between your organisation and ours.
Mr Agu said the company would soon
establish a training school which would be equipped with modern equipment and
state-of-the-art library powered by IT in readiness for the installation of the
company’s brand new press.
Continuing, he said: "The beauty of
Champion is that it is a strong brand. Undaunted by the harsh economic
environment, we have managed over the years to etch into the subconscious of our
numerous readers.
"And with the new press I want to assure
advertisers that any advert they place in Champion, will give them the
desired mileage - Towards this end, we solicit your collaboration to fully
explore the eastern market especially Port Harcourt which is big and strategic."
Responding, Mrs Tador a seasoned
journalist thanked the Champion management in the opportunity of the
visit pledging her organisation’s willingness to collaborate with Champion
to achieve mutually rewarding goals.
She recalled that when Radio Rivers
was established, it was a novel idea, stressing however, that the station had in
the past 24 years turned out distinguished broadcasters and administrators who
are making positive contributions in other areas of human endeavour.
She said: "We train people and they go out
and train others. I am delighted to note that Champion Newspapers Limited has
been doing exactly that. We attribute our achievements to Governor Peter Odili
whose administration continues to take the press as an integral part of
development in the state.
"We have acquired two new transmitters as
part of efforts to meet the needs of our vast and varied listening audience. And
I want to let you know also that we shall be fully digitalised before the end of
the year.
"Training is one of our key areas because
of the vibrancy of the broadcast industry. We hope therefore to send some of our
staff here as soon as the training school takes off.
