Narcotic agents at the Murtala Muhammed Airport have nabbed
a mother of six, who returned to drug pushing after serving
a jail term in Pakistan for the same offence.
Tawakalitu Adekunbi, 35, was caught with another unrepentant
drug pusher, Ejoor Dan-Frank, 37, who served with her at Karachi
prisons, where they were recruited by a cartel that was working
from inside.
Defending her action at the parade of 13 suspects by the Zonal
Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Alhaji
Abdullahi Damburam, Adekunbi said she went back into drug
pushing because she wanted to recoup what she had lost when
she was in jail.
Danburam said his men arrested Adekunbi last week, as she
arrived on board a Kenyan Airways plane from Karachi and was
found to have ingested 390 grammes of heroin, which she allegedly
got from an inmate in Karachi prisons, where she was released
after serving a one-year jail term.
Dan-Frank also walked into the NDLEA net as he stepped out
of the Kenyan Airways plane. And like Adekunbi, he had just
completed a jail term in Karachi.
Danburam said: "It is double offence for them. One, for
being in possession of illicit drug and for scandalising Nigeria’s
name abroad."
Danburam spoke about other suspects, including 46-year-old
Stella Ajani, Nwariri Emeka and Fadayomi Dada, who were nabbed
on the same day as Adekunbi and Dan-Frank. He said they were
travelling to Rome, Amsterdam and London respectively.
According to him, Ajani excreted 830 grammes of cocaine, which
she wanted to deliver to one Ngozi in Rome.
"Ngozi lives in Napoli, Italy," Danburam said, adding
that another suspect, Nwariri Emeka excreted 865 grammes of
cocaine, which he was taking to Holland.
Danburam warned Nigerians to be on guard as the Yuletide draws
near because criminals, "especially drug dealers are
ready to entice innocent citizens with big money in order
to recruit them for the illicit trade."
