Deputy leader of Afenifere and a chieftain
of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Chief Ayo Fasanmi has said that the recent
request by Bayo, son of Chief Abraham Adesanya that the leadership of Afenifere
should desist from holding meetings in his father’s house was in order.
Fasanmi noted that if members of the
Adesanya family said that their father was not feeling too fit and wanted him
to rest, they have the right to advise his political associates to give him
some breathing space.
“The request is in order. If the old
man is not feeling well and they are saying that the series of meetings being
held at the residence is creating tension, there is nothing wrong with the
request”, Fasanmi said after inaugurating the Political Committee of the
organisation at the Jibowu, Yaba, Lagos secretariat of the organisation.
He said the secretariat was always
available for holding of meetings and wonder why some people have decided to be
holding meetings at the house of Adesanya. “This is the secretariat of
Afenifere. Nobody can deny us the right hold our meetings here”, he
added.
Fasanmi expressed a lot of worry about
current trends in the country, which he said should be of concern to every
citizen. “I am really worried because 44 years after our independence
people are asking many questions; is that how we run a government? Has many
years of military rule created a lot of problem for the country? Is the economy
on course? And have we restructured according to democratic principles”?
The Afenifere leader said when these
questions are perused there will be little room for anyone to be happy, adding
that it is baffling that there is so much poverty in the land and the federal government
remained unconcerned. He said the main preoccupation of the ruling Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) is to make Nigeria a one-party state and call on
well-meaning Nigerians to resist it.
