Osun proposes
N520 million for constituency projects

Osun State government is to vote N520
million for projects in the 26 state House of Assembly constituencies next
fiscal year. The money is already built into the 2005 budget and is to enable
each house of assembly member to prosecute their constituency projects across
the state.
Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola disclosed this
while rounding off the commissioning of the first round of the projects
executed at various locations across the state.
Oyinlola stated that he was impressed by
the various projects embarked upon by the members of the state House of
Assembly during the first round of the projects.
For the first phase, the lawmakers were
given the sum of N5 million to execute their constituency projects while
additional N5 million would be release to them to make N10 million each.
According to the Press Secretary to the
Speaker, Mr. Olumide Ajayi, one hundred and ten classrooms located in various
parts of the state were executed with the constituency fund provided for the
lawmakers.
Also, thirty-nine motorized boreholes, five
head pump boreholes; two health centres and the electrification of three
communities among others were also executed.
Speaking at the commissioning, Oyinlola
said he was encouraged by the performance of members of the state House of
Assembly in the execution of their constituency projects.
He however promised to double the N260
million in the next year budget to ensure the execution of more development projects
across the state.
The speaker of the Assembly, Barrister
Adejare Bello, while speaking assured that the Second phase of the constituency
project would be completed in the next few months just as he advised local
government chairmen to borrow a leaf from the development initiative of the
state government.
Describing the idea of constituency
projects as novel and the first of its kind in the state, Adejare Bello said
the present administration in the state would ensure spreading of development
project across the state, without discrimination.
He tasked members of the state House of
Assembly to go back to their constituencies to identify the needs of the people
for consideration under the second phase of the constituency projects.
