We are shocked
SIR: On behalf of Afenifere members at home and abroad, I write to express our heartfelt sympathy to the Agbeyegbe family on the October 12 gruesome murder of an illustrious Yoruba son of Itsekiri extraction, Capt. Jerry Agbeyegbe.
The callous murder of the forthright, highly professional and safety minded first class pilot has once again exposed the state of insecurity in our country five years after civil rule. The circumstances of Jerry's death and the police handling of the whole saga have again exposed Nigeria as that demented chicken that sucks its finest eggs.
Words are not enough to console the Agbeyegbe family in this terrible time. But we admonish the family to take solace in the fact that Jerry lived a fulfilled life by leaving bold prints on the sand of time. He may have been put to eternal silence because he attacked and campaigned ferociously against the source of income of a sizeable chunk of Nigerian elite " corruption, but the fire he stocked can never be quenched.
It would be foolhardy for the Agbeyegbe family to insist on getting justice in a country where a murdered Justice Minister could not get justice. But the perpetrators of this dastardly act cannot escape the judgement of God. In His court, no police can step forward to say that a man with 29 bullet points on his body died in a "lone car accident". For the cowards who hid under the cover of the dark to take away Jerry's life, we say they have murdered sleep and the blood of the deceased is on their head.
Finally we urge the Agbeyegbe family to take heart and trust in the Lord. We pray that the great comforter will heal their wounds. His banner will surely cover everyone Jerry has left behind. May the departed soul rest in perfect peace. (Amen).
